Sinuous (translations)

Annelisa Addolorato (trans. Maria Bennett, Bill Wolak)

Larvae

Larvae

of ordinary

genius:

island

alone

dissolved in salt

The Cry of the Newborn

The cry of the newborn

from an ancestral

nothingness

bound

to the wall

of eternity

with the hair

of lost

centaurs

On the Hill

The thought

rolls

down the hill

sharp

waves

spit it out

from the aching

ground

This Sinuous Choir

This sinuous choir

darkens

my blue

hand

and

between

the fingers

I glimpse

the icy knots

of the ocean

In Another Place

Train rail

ferocious savior

mill wheel

of country lands and cement

speak to us

of the river of time

which you need

to conquer

the stone figure of Atlas

and run it over

with kisses

The shrunken human profile on the station’s clock

is suspended in air, held aloft on the shoulder of the cosmic egg

The train rail is born here and is nurtured by trees and squares
